A (brief) history of The Quogue Junior Theatre Troupe…

The Troupe was founded in 1979 by Sue Prior, and began as a creative and aesthetic extension to the Junior Sports Program at the Quogue Field Club. In return for the gratis use of the village theater, Sue Prior was asked by Mayor McLean to expand the Troupe to benefit the youth of the entire village. The Quogue Junior Theater Troupe happily accepted, and the rest is history. The Troupe has mounted two fully scaled professionally directed musicals each and every season. Thanks to the great generosity of many donors and supporters, the young people of Quogue and its neighboring villages have danced, sung, and acted their way through the last forty-five summers.

Not only performing youth have been enriched by the QJTT experience. Technical Crew members, through the QJTT Tech Apprentice Program, have participated in stage management, as well as lighting and sound design and operation. Still other members have had the unique opportunity to assist professional directors, musical directors and choreographers, from the first rehearsal to opening night, and have learned what it takes to mount a major musical theater production. Over the years, QJTT has provided many happy summer memories for the youth in our program.
